Faisalabad CDG buy Rs2m security gadgets
FAISALABAD , Feb 28: The city district council has passed a unanimous resolution to purchase security equipment worth Rs2 million in view of threats of suicide bombings.
The resolution was adopted in the meeting held on Wednesday with convener Mian Amjad Yasin in the chair.
The convener told the house that the Punjab government had directed tightening of security and the City District Government Faisalabad (CDG-F) had decided to purchase modern gadgets. <more>
Five more signal-free corridors planned
KARACHI , March 20: City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has informed a foreign delegation that the city government will build five more signal-free corridors in the metropolis during the current year.
Talking to the delegation of an Australian company, Meinhardt International Group, which called on him at his office on Tuesday, he said the city government would invite foreign companies to participate in the development of Karachi by participating in the projects as per international standards. <more>
Qatar to invest $4 billion
ISLAMABAD , March 24: Qatar and Kuwait have decided to make $4 billion new investment in Pakistan 's power, hotel, insurance and oil refinery sectors, said minister for privatisation and investment Zahid Hamid.
"While Qatar is f inal ising arrangements to make up to $3 billion investment in hotel, power and insurance sectors, Kuwait is all set to establish a new oil refinery for which it has been offered land at two different places", he told a news conference on Saturday.<more>

Fire safety finds place in railways upgrades
RAWALPINDI , Feb 27: Pakistan Railway has decided to upgrade safety standards in all passenger coaches and equip these with fire extinguishers, official sources told Dawn.
Though train fires are rare, all rehabilitated and modernised air-conditioned coaches have been equipped with fire fighting equipment, while plans are underway to upgrade non-AC coaches on similar lines.
Attendants in each coach have been tasked with maintaining the equipment. <more>

ADB briefed about mega projects
KARACHI , Feb 21: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said work on different schemes is in progress in the province with $600 million assistance of the Asian Development Bank while the City District Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, said the government has chalked out a comprehensive plan for the development of Karachi Beach . The beach project will receive $60 billion foreign investment.
The ADB mission led byJuan Miranda called on Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim and his advisor on finance affairs M.A. Jalil separately.
The City Nazim, who was also present at the meetings. He informed the mission that the federal, provincial and district governments were also spending between Rs25 billion to Rs50 billion on Karachi 's development. He said a huge investment of Rs1.1 billion had already been made in Karachi which included an IT Tower, elevated expressway, Mass Transit Corridor One. <more>
